Remove the audio cameras that burden drivers with reports and fines and harm the mental health of all drivers!

May 19, 2022 As we know, driver-monitoring cameras have been installed on public buses, just in front of the steering wheel, for the past few months. These cameras, which are expected to be installed on more than six thousand buses, also provide various warnings. • Because the camera-based audio tracking device is positioned directly in front of us drivers (behind the steering wheel) and records our every moment and movement, it constantly harasses drivers. • The facial recognition system in these devices often fails to recognize the driver, warning, "YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE." This audio warning also reaches passengers, making them and drivers uneasy. • While we are checking the road ahead by looking in the vehicle's rearview mirrors, it constantly warns, "LOOK AHEAD." • With every movement (scratching your cheek, yawning, neck movement), the audio tracking device warns, "YOU ARE TIRED, TAKE A BREAK." These audible warnings have no equivalent in the workplace, and they also make passengers uneasy. While driving, it warns, "DO NOT LEAVE THE DRIVER'S COMPARTMENT." The device is malfunctioning and issuing false warnings, irritating the driver. These audible warnings distract us. On the other hand, being constantly monitored and recorded by a machine, constantly being watched, makes the already tiring and stressful long work hours unbearable, completely disrupting the peace and tranquility. Considering the difficult and stressful nature of our work, these devices intimidate us. Because these warnings are not understood by passengers, they lead to unnecessary arguments between passengers and drivers. The Istanbul Electricity Transmission Company (İETT) issues reports and fines based on the recordings from these devices. It is against the rules of honesty and business ethics to issue fines based on these devices, which are already malfunctioning and often give false warnings.
